The students have worked very hard to construct a Rube Goldberg machine. We are presenting the machines this week. Students are graded on meeting the objective (pop a balloon OR get a ball into a cup), creativity and problem solving, and following directions (having 6 or more steps). The project is worth a total of 20 points.
Science is often trial and error. Please encourage your student to view this entire experience as a valuable learning experience - especially if the machine doesn't work the way it was expected.
This project is a great summer time activity to keep kids from getting bored. Have them use items found around the house or in the recycling bin. Come up with your own Rube Goldberg challenge!
